The New Zealand Prosthetic Eye Service was founded in 2008 to provide for the needs of prosthetic eye wearers in New Zealand. We offer these special people evidence based professional care from accessible locations in established eye centres throughout the North Island and our fees are mostly fully subsidised by the Accident Compensation Corporation, Ministry of Health or local District Health Boards.
We are a specialist service working exclusively with anophthalmic patients and make and custom fit more than 10 prosthetic eyes per month within a team environment where optometrists and ophthalmologists are readily available for consultation.
Our ocular prosthetist, Dr Keith Pine has over 30 years of experience and as a Research Fellow with the School of Optometry and Vision Science at the University of Auckland, has published 8 scientific papers and a textbook on prosthetic eyes. He is a sought after speaker at international conferences.
Our administrative office is located on the North Shore, Auckland and our clinics currently operate in Hamilton, Rotorua, Tauranga, Takapuna, Wellington and Whangarei.
